Cookie Dough Frosting is a real thing my friends … and oh-my-word, it is amazing. All those cookie dough fans out there, this one is for us. The process is similar to making normal frosting but with just a twist to mimic cookie dough.

I know I’m on a cookie dough bender lately, my hope is you just jump onto this cookie dough train and ride it all the way to happy cookie dough land.

While I was visiting my sister a last month to help with the newest addition to the family, there was a request to make my Edible Cookie Dough. The total unhealthy but totally delicious version.

My sister has two kids under two right now. We don’t need any explanation of why we wanted the unhealthy version, do we?

The first batch disappeared within a day. We all would sneak a spoonful out of the jar here and there and before we knew it – GONE.  Cookie Dough Frosting Gluten-Free, Dairy-Free, Vegan Friendly - Veggiebalance.com

The day before I left, I made her a batch of the perfect hard boiled eggs, kale salad (which is totally a recipe she taught me) and another batch of edible cookie dough.

The problem was my sister is definitely not a baker (again she has two kids under two where the hell would she find the time?) and we ran out of brown sugar. I had to get creative and ended up using powdered sugar instead to add the sweetness.

THAT is how this Cookie Dough Frosting idea was born. I immediately began dreaming of it piled onto our moist chocolate cupcakes or even our lava cupcakes. Make it in a double layered cake.

Frosted onto brownies.

Oh my word, is this making you drool too?

What I had envisioned in my head totally became a reality with this cookie dough frosting. So lather up the cookie dough goodness and enjoy!

Total Time:10 min

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup butter, softened (or dairy-free alternative)
  • ¼ cup brown sugar, packed
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • ⅛ - ¼ cup milk (or dairy-free alternative)
  • ½ cup gluten-free flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Directions:

  • 1. Microwave flour on high for 45 seconds. Allow flour to cool.
  • 2. Add softened butter in medium bowl.
  • 3. Beat butter with mixer until creamy (30-45 seconds).
  • 4. Add brown sugar, salt, ½ cup powdered sugar, milk, flour, vanilla extract, continue beating with mixer, slowly add remaining powdered sugar ½ cup at a time incorporating into butter mixture. Beat for another 2-3 minutes to create perfectly smooth frosting.
  • 5. Fold in chocolate chips.
  • 6. Frost immediately.

    Is it necessary to microwave the flour? This looks amazing but I actually don’t have a microwave

      Well, many people are afraid of the RISK of possibly getting sick from raw flour now. If you are one of those people you also can bake it for about 5 minutes at 350 degrees on apan. If you are not, don’t worry about and feel free to skip that step. 🙂

      People have concerns about raw flour making you sick. This is a quick way to help resolve that problem.

    Do you have to use gluten free flour? Can I use all purpose flour instead?

      Anytime we use 1-1 gluten free flour or gluten free baking flour YES you can sub normal ap flour for our recipes. 🙂

      The only time you have to be careful with it is when we use almond flour or coconut flour. Hope this helps and enjoy!
